In their game against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, the Atlanta Braves found one of the more remarkable ways in recent memory to lose in. At one point up 10-2, the Braves allowed 13 unanswered runs to lose 14-10.
Strangest of all, though, was an eighth inning that saw the Braves allow nine two-out runs on just three hits. Walks, wild pitches and even a batter struck in the face allowed the Cubs to get their batters around the bases.
The Braves went through four different pitchers in that eighth inning, and not one was able to escape unscathed. Although Peter Moylan was finally able to get his team out of the inning, his first pitch upon entering the game only added to the bleeding:
To be fair to the Braves, the weather conditions in Chicago were terrible, enough so that their game for Sunday has been postponed.
Fans, however, are beginning to see a pattern here, comparing the Braves’ meltdown to the Atlanta Falcons’ infamous blown 28-3 lead in Super Bowl LI. Adding even more insult to injury, some are even bringing up the 13-0 lead given away by the Georgia Bulldogs in the NCAA football championship:
Hey, at least the 24-58 Atlanta Hawks aren’t blowing any leads any time soon... or, for that matter, the Atlanta Thrashers.
