Whether we're talking about jersey numbers or using stats in sports arguments, numbers have and will always have a place in sports in a variety of different ways.
We're going to focus on jersey numbers right now. As we saw Monday night in Los Angeles, the digit or digits on a player's jersey are so much more than just numbers.
Players are recognized by their numbers and they are part of a player's legacy. Everyone knows that 99, for example, is Wayne Gretzky's number and because of his legendary career, nobody else can wear that number in hockey ever again.
We're not sure if any players currently in the NHL will ever reach that level, but there's always a chance that what they do on the ice will make kids growing up want be like them and wear their number.
With that, we decided to take a look at the six most-worn jersey numbers in the NHL right now, and the results might surprise you.
