It took just two sets for Naomi Osaka to become the first Japanese female to capture a Grand Slam, but it didn’t come without controversy.
Her match with the legendary Serena Williams took a turn for the worst in the second set when the latter was penalized for a coaching violation for a gesture her coach Patrick Mouratoglou made toward her during the match. After voicing her frustration with the call, she received a verbal penalty and was docked a full game. The whole situation got pretty ugly.
