T.J. Oshie spent seven seasons with the St. Louis Blues before he was traded to the Washington Capitals ahead of the 2015-16 season. During his time in St. Louis, Oshie was very active throughout the community and helped numerous charities whenever he could and that didn’t change once he joined the Capitals.
On Wednesday, the 30-year-old participated in the Alzheimer’s Association’s The Longest Day campaign to help raise funds towards a cure for Alzheimer’s and ended up raising a large amount of money.
Ahead of the event, Oshie reached out to Caps fans to encourage them to join his team and was hoping to get at least 77 fans to donate $77 for a total of nearly $6,000. Instead, he nearly quadrupled that and raised $21,000 towards the Alzheimer’s Association.
Oshie participated in the event in honour of his father, Tim, who was diagnosed a few years ago back in 2012 and for everyone else affected by the disease.
You don’t have to be a Caps fan to appreciate what Oshie did for his father and everyone else living with the disease.
