Over the course of his career, NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal broke a lot of backboards.
Whether he was posturizing opponents during his earlier days with the Orlando Magic or dominating the league with Kobe in Los Angeles, Shaq has never been kind to rims. In case you forgot, here’s a reminder of just how punishing he was.
Rather than letting the rims rust out and hide in a room, the 45-year-old decided to put them to use and created a massive tree that surprisingly makes the seven footer look small. He calls it, ‘The Broken Rim Tree’.
That thing is huge! The piece is actually called “Orange Tree” and was created by Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea.
By the looks of it, there’s plenty of room left on the ‘branches’ for more rims. Shaq likely won’t be adding much more to the collection, but his son Shareef very well could in the future. At 17 years of age, the kid has already displayed some impressive cramming ability.
Art is generally pretty unique these days, but this piece takes the game to a whole new level.
