The Ottawa Senators signed defenceman Christian Wolanin to a two-year, entry-level contract earlier this week and they didn’t waste any time getting their 2015 fourth-round draft pick into the lineup.

The 23-year-old made his NHL debut on Thursday against the Edmonton Oilers after spending the past three seasons at the University of North Dakota and he was part of his first blooper before the puck even dropped.

As TSN’s Brent Wallace mentioned during his hit, the newest member of the Sens ended up accidentally snowing Alex Burrows while he was working on his edges and the veteran made a joke about it as if it was on purpose.

The Rochester, Michigan native also went through the routine rookie treatment as the rest of the guys let him go out for his first lap of the pre-game skate all by himself.

It wasn't the most memorable NHL debut for Wolanin as the Sens lost the game 6-2, but he finished the night with an even rating in the plus/minus department in 17:09 of ice time.

Wolanin registered 22 goals and 50 assists for 72 points in 109 games at the University of North Dakota and totaled 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points in 40 games this past season.
