It seems so long ago that the Ottawa Senators were one goal away from making the Stanley Cup Final last year, but things didn’t go quite as planned this season.
After a rough year, fans are as frustrated as ever. To express some of their dissatisfaction, they have hopped on a popular trend in recent sports movements. Recently, we’ve seen billboards about the New York Islanders’ GM Garth Snow and several different advertisements to try and recruit LeBron James to different cities in the NBA.
This time, it’s targeting the owner of the Ottawa Senators, Eugene Melnyk. The billboard reads “#MelnykOut – Paid for by the fans -> Visit MelnykOut.ca”.
The campaign was started by Spencer Callaghan, who kicked things off with a Go Fund Me account to get four billboards put up across Ottawa.
We’re not sure this is going to have any real impact on the way Eugene Melnyk runs his franchise. The Garth Snow billboards came and went and were mainly left with some social media buzz. Mark Borowiecki defended Melnyk about the difficulties of running a franchise.
