Russell Wilson was quietly in the MVP talks this season after tying his career high in touchdowns while only throwing 11 interceptions – so most fans didn’t expect to see his name in a trade headline.
Well, they may not have been thinking about his baseball career.
When Wilson entered the NFL, there was always another path that could have been a possibility. Wilson was drafted in the 4th round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Colorado Rockies and was eventually re-drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 2014 Rule 5 Draft. Now, he’s been traded by the Rangers to the Yankees and fans are a little confused.
Of course, anyone who wasn’t aware of his baseball contract may have been confused, but this will have no impact on his football career. He has already expressed that he has no interest in becoming a two-sport athlete.
The only thing that might happen is he’ll bring out some more crowds to Yankees spring training. He’s spent time at Rangers’ spring training in the past, so it wouldn’t surprise us to see him with the Yankees too. He’s already tweeting about being a Yankee too.
