The Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators have had their hands full with each other on the ice, but some players have still managed to make an impact on their community off of it.
Two-year-old Predators fan Trip Phinney is battling cancer, but that hasn’t stopped him from cheering on his favourite team. The youngster has attended four games with tickets that were ironically sent from goaltender Pekka Rinne to the Pediatric Cancer Fund.
Stephanie Mullowney, a Nashville area photographer, reached out to Predators defenceman Roman Josi and requested he visit Trip at his family’s home in Murfreeboro. Despite playing in the most important series of his life, Josi agreed to meet with Trip. To make the experience even better, the D-man brought along his teammate, captain Mike Fisher.

According to Trip’s mom Theresa, Trip was “a little bit happier and a little bit more himself” when he was with the two athletes.
It’s worth noting that Josi and Fisher agreed to the visit even after their team suffered a 6-0 defeat at the hands of the Penguins. Trip will cheer on his team with the rest of Nashville’s fan-base during Game 6 on Sunday night.
