The Ottawa Senators have changed a lot in about a year and the changes continued today when the team ended up waiving Zack Smith.
We have seen that some teammates weren’t totally thrilled about the move and a year ago, we’re assuming that the team wouldn’t have been either. Smith had a down season last year, but the vibe around the team and how they’ve embraced their rebuild, it really does seem wildly different than last season.
Just consider the list of people that they protected in the 2017 expansion draft.
What isn’t included in that is that Pageau won’t be playing with the team for at least six months after tearing an achilles tendon in his right leg. Add in that Duchene will be a UFA in July and this team could continue their overhaul throughout 2018 and 2019.
Especially considering the comments he made earlier today.
