The Toronto Raptors shocked many fans by taking Scottie Barnes with the fourth overall pick at this yearβs NBA Draft. The top four spots in this yearβs selection were considered to be coveted based on four players who were considered to be top, elite level talents; Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green, Evan Mobley, and Jalen Suggs.
The Raps decision was considered by some to be an easy one; take whichever one of those four prospects that remains after the initial three selections. When the Raps selection hit the clock, it was Suggs that still remained.
Masai Ujiri and Co. decided to go a different route, instead selecting Scottie Barnes out of Florida State. While the move was immediately labeled a mistake by many, Barnes seems to be doing a lot of things right so far and has very quickly charmed a lot of Raps fans.
On Sunday, Barnes debuted in a Raptors jersey, playing for Toronto in Summer League action vs. the New York Knicks.
It went VERY well.
Barnes did it all in the debut!
The only blemish was Barnes' inefficient shooting, going 7-18 from the field. Summer League rosters are also far inferior to NBA rosters during the season, but Raps fans couldnβt ask for much more out of the 1st round pick.
