Rajai Davis woke up on Wednesday with the intention of playing for the Syracuse Mets against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in Allentown, Pennsylvania, but sometimes life comes at you pretty fast and you’ve got to make some quick adjustments.

Just as Davis started batting practice with the Triple-A club he got word that the New York Mets were calling him up. This wasn’t a ‘pack your bags and say goodbye to your teammates’ type of moments, it was more of a ‘hurry up and get to Citi Field because we might need you tonight’ type of moment and it was just the beginning of a crazy night for the 38-year-old.

After getting the news in Pennsylvania, Davis ordered an Uber and spent the next two hours of his day traveling with a stranger to Citi Field. Since he got wind of the promotion at the last second, Davis ended up arriving late to the field and got to there in time for the third inning. As if that wasn’t enough, the 13-year veteran couldn’t find his new clubhouse, which delayed his arrival even more.

However, it all became worthwhile in the bottom of the 8th inning when Davis got his first at-bat as a member of the New York Mets and he made quite the first impression at Citi Field.

What a long day, but it was all worth it in the end.
