There’s nothing quite like playing outdoor hockey out on a lake during the dead of winter.

We here at BarDown are big fans of playing the game of hockey on any surface, whether it’s an indoor rink, an outdoor rink or arena, or pond.

But there’s just something more majestic, more tranquil and more magical about playing the game we all love out on a surface that has no limitations. You can just skate forever, fire slap shots to your friends down the ice for hundreds of metres, or just soak in the stunning  natural beauty that will surely leave you in awe.

If you live in and around Toronto, then you know just how cold it’s been recently. While some chose to stay in, other flocks to the closet hockey rink, or in the case of the condo dwellers living down by the lake shore, head to Lake Ontario for some stunning sights and a twirl on the smallest of the great lakes.

Countless videos have been popping up on Instagram and YouTube, so we’d thought we show you some of the best footage and photos of people lacing up the skates and playing the game that we all love.

Down by the harbour front, there’s a couple of different skating options if you don't want to jump on Lake Ontario, like the Harbour Front Centre.

Those photos are videos are simply stunning.

If you plan on heading down there, use common sense and make sure the ice is safe enough to skate on prior to testing it out, especially now since the weather is expected to warm up.

As always, if you have any photos or videos of yourself playing hockey outdoors, feel free to tweet at us @BarDown, or tag us on Instagram @TSN_Official.
