The Pittsburgh Penguins picked up a 3-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night and two of their goals came off the sticks of rookies, including the game-winner.
The Canes jumped out to a 1-0 lead 7:14 into the second period, but their lead lasted less than a minute as Dominik Simon picked up his second goal of the season 49 seconds later to make it a 1-1 game.
Simon’s quick response to Derek Ryan’s opening goal sparked something on the Penguins’ bench as they managed to take the lead 76 seconds after they tied the game courtesy of Jean-Sebastien Dea’s first career NHL goal.
The 23-year-old’s first career NHL goal ended up being a big one as it held up to be the eventual game-winning goal. As great as it must have been to get his first career goal out of the way, the interaction he had with Mario Lemieux afterwards must have made the moment even better.
Not a bad way to top off an already incredible night.
