Patrik Laine made his love for Winnipeg very clear this morning when he penned an emotional letter about the city in the Players' Tribune. The Finnish superstar touched on its tight community, stating there's the feeling that “everybody is your neighbor”. But before things got rolling, he made sure to clarify a puzzling claim a few San Jose Sharks players made about the place he now calls home.

In a Twitter video that has since been deleted, Sharks players Justin Braun, Tim Heed and Tomas Hertl tabbed Winnipeg as their least favouritre city to play in, and Braun even went as far to criticize it for having poor wifi. Laine clarified that it is in fact fine, claiming that it's actually “sick.” He then continued by arguing the importance of having strong wifi, and how it helps he and teammate Nikolaj Ehlers game online.

The article also includes details about Laine’s personal life, including his daily schedule, reason behind his beard, and who he believes are the strongest at certain skills on the team. According to the 19-year-old, the team’s best skater is Ehlers, the best passer is Blake Wheeler, and the best chirper is Dustin Byfuglien. He also made sure to point out that he has the best shot on the team.

Laine closed out the article by praising Winnipeg’s fan base for their commitment to the team. Though he’s been to each rink just a few times, he claims there’s something special about BellMTS Place.

The following is an excerpt from The Players’ Tribune:

“So why are people hating on Winnipeg? I think maybe I know why they don’t like coming here. Maybe guys are too cold? Maybe this is a hard place to play because of our fans? I’ve only been to each NHL building a few times, but I know for sure — our rink is the loudest.”

He then continued with:

“And I know that they get even louder in the spring. I remember I was on YouTube the year before I was drafted, and I found this video — “The Return of The Winnipeg WhiteOut.”

It was really cool. Like, I got … what are they called … the goose pimples?”

Goose pimples!

Everything has changed for the organization since they were awarded the 2nd overall pick in the 2016 draft. Laine, along with his teammates, will atempt to climb its way through a crowded Western Conference and bring the city its first Stanley Cup this spring.

At least we’re all good on the whole wifi thing.
