Alex Ovechkin has officially reached a mark that only 19 players in history have reached before him. 600 goals for the big Russian sniper.
Not only did he reach the mark that few have reached before, he reached it even faster than most of the small handful that has. Only three players reached 600 goals in fewer games played than The Great 8
This event was a huge storyline heading into the game as Patrik Laine, another deadly sniper, was facing off against Ovi. The two came into the game tied for the league lead in goals scored this season. When it was all said and done, Laine had scored once in the Jets’ loss, but Ovi had scored twice – including the milestone goal. After the game, Laine shared a funny take on what this goal was like from his point of view.
Laine may have taken the minus there, but he is having a tremendous sophomore season. Since coming into the league, the Finnish forwards rocket shot from Ovi’s favourite spot has been the source of drawing a bunch of comparisons between the two. Ovi was even asked about the comparisons ahead of Monday’s game.

Laine is widely thought of as the next great pure scorer in the league, and he’s well on his way already.
