The moment that Brandon Carlo went into the boards after being hit awkwardly by Washington’s Tom Wilson, everyone held their breath right away, knowing it looked pretty bad.

Carlo didn’t return to the game and had to go to the hospital, but luckily, has since been released and is recovering well.

There was no initial call on the ice on Wilson, and immediately, given Wilson’s track record and the look of the hit, the play was scrutinized from every angle.

Opposing players and fans alike called for the hit to be reviewed and Wilson to be suspended, and yesterday, he was slapped with seven games.

Like most things in hockey, the ruling was met with a mixed response. Some thought the league got it right, others thought it was way too much, and some believe he should have gotten more.

Wilson’s teammate Alex Ovechkin, though? He put his opinion in pretty simple words.

Yep, Ovi didn’t mince words, and thinks the ruling is ‘kind of a joke’.

We know he’s his teammate, so we can’t imagine a time where the captain would have said his player deserved the suspension, but Ovi definitely ruffled some feathers with his comment.
