If the last half year or so has taught us anything, it’s that Alex Ovechkin is even more wild than we could have imagined.

This comes as a result of the Washington Capitals historic franchise first Stanley Cup. Some thought Ovi would never win one, and then he did. As you’d expect, he wasn’t afraid to brag about it a little.

But okay, even the Great 8 isn’t invincible to scrutiny, something that he received quite a bit for recently when he went out on a limb to declare that Tom Wilson (a guy who is increasingly starting to sour in the mouths of lots of hockey fans) to former great Eric Lindros.

Oh, and he did so with a massive diss attached.

That statement alone is a tough pill for many Ovi fans to swallow, although he does go on to qualify it. Tom Wilson is a tough guy, but he’s not one dimensional. He also knows how to put the puck in the net, or set up someone else to do so.

Teammate Niklas Backstrom didn’t go quite as far, but he did hop to the defence of Wilson and his style of play as well.

Eric Lindros’ career was shortened significantly due to various injuries, otherwise there’s no telling how the dominant forward would have done. He brought size, skill, and speed as a package to the game more than anyone did at the point, and maybe since then as well. The Wilson comparison may be a bit of a stretch, but we’re sure Ovi doesn’t mind a little outrage.
