Basketball can be quite the streaky sport. Sometimes players seem to go into funks where they can’t buy a bucket. How do players get out of that funk? It could be as simple as hitting the gym to work on their shot, but for Fred VanVleet, the birth of his son was the magic spark.
In the 2019 NBA playoffs, VanVleet was averaging just 4 points per game while shooting 26% from the field up until the birth of Fred Jr. After the birth of his son, FVV was seemingly automatic.
The Fred Jr. effect is now working his magic on another Raptor. If we rewind back to November 28th, Norman Powell was seen holding Fred Jr. Since that point, Norm has been on an amazing stretch.
Ever since he held Fred VanVleet's magical child, Norman Powell has averaged over 20 points per game and shot over 50% from the field over a 26 game stretch.
On top of that, he was just named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. We’re not sure how long Norman Powell will keep up this pace, but maybe every member of the Raptors should take a turn babysitting Fred VanVleet Jr.
