Who exactly is the top first overall NHL draft pick from the past 40 years? It's all subjective, but NHL.com gave its take, and the next best 15 from the past four decades.

Think about some of the names: Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, there are A LOT to choose from. But their top pick (unsurprisingly) came from a different era, and we have a feeling there won't be much debate over it.

Super Mario it is!

Crosby and Ovechkin have already played more games thran Lemieux, but their point totals aren't even close yet. In just 915 games, Mario scored 690 goals and tallied 1,033 assists. 1,723 in just 915 games!!!! His 1.883 points per game average sits only behind Wayne Gretzky (1.921, and was not a first overall pick)!

This list could look drastically different at the end of the decade but for now, it's tough to argue with their top picks. What're your thoughts?
