The list to sign Japanese pitcher/outfielder Shohei Ohtani once included every team in Major League Baseball, but that list is a lot shorter now after the 23-year-old utility player started cutting cities off his list.
While most people expected the Japanese prospect to land with the New York Yankees or the Boston Red Sox, the young utility player made it clear on Sunday that he was not going to sign with the Yankees or the Red Sox.
Considering the Yankees have been known to overspend and overbid just to land big name free agents, the news that they were out of the running for the young Japanese pitcher/outfielder shocked a lot of New York residents and reporters, especially the people over at the New York Daily News.
After the young Japanese superstar made it clear he wanted to play in a small market, the New York Daily News decided to take a shot at him on the cover of Monday’s paper by calling him ‘a chicken’.
It’s sad to see adults take a shot like this at the youngster just because he doesn’t want to play for their favourite team.
As for the teams still in the running, here they are.
