Series about real-life sports situations simply hit different.
We saw it with The Last Dance, we’re currently seeing it with Man in the Arena: Tom Brady, and we’re hopefully going to once again be treated to a 10-part Masterclass in HBO’s upcoming series ‘Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.”
While it’s not a docu-series like the aforementioned series, this HBO release has a ton of promise as it’s based around one of the most fun stretches an NBA franchise has ever had. Not only were the Lakers dominant, they were flashy in doing so.
The cast is top notch as well, with starring roles coming from John C. Reilly (playing Lakers owner Jerry Buss), Quincy Isaiah (Magic Johnson), Jason Clarke (Jerry West) and Adrien Brody (coach Pat Riley). Gaby Hoffmann, Tracy Letts, Jason Segel, Julianne Nicholson, Hadley Robinson, Dr. Solomon Hughes, Tamera Tomakili, Brett Cullen, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Joey Brooks, Sarah Ramos, Spencer Garrett, Molly Gordon, DeVaughn Nixon, Delante Desouza, Jimel Atkins, Austin Aaron, Jon Young, Rob Morgan and Sally Field also star, per Hollywood Reporter.
On Thursday, we got our first taste of what to expect from the series. All we can say is that we are absolutely jazzed up about it.
The series is set to premiere in March, and you can bet that our butts will be on the couch for it. From the cast, to the story, to the production company – this series has all the makings of something special.
