Mitch Marner is quite literally living the dream right now. He gets paid to play the sport he loves, in the city he grew up in, on a team that offers one of the most promising group of young talent league wide - and he's only 20 years old. We aren't in the business of measuring life success, but that's a pretty good situation no matter who you ask.
While Toronto is known as the hockey capital of the world, bringing with it a mountain of media attention and expectations, Marner made sure to tell That's Hockey that it's something he expected coming in, and something that he has grown accustomed to. More than anything, it's about living out his childhood dream.
On Thursday, Marner stopped by to talk about what it's like to play in a hockey hotbed, and also to discuss the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup. Marner is an ambassador of the initiative that challenges peewee hockey players to put their best foot forward in the community.
Marner's big day in the studio didn't stop there. He went on to join Sportscentre to discuss what it's like playing on the Leafs, how his teammates have helped him grow, and even dove into some of the behind the scenes topics as well.
Finally, he touched on one of the latest stories surrounding the Leafs right now, the spear thatCalgary Flames' winger Matthew Tkachuk jabbed Marner's teammate a close friend Matt Martin with. The little poke from the bench landed the feisty Tkachuk a one-game suspension, but former London Knights' teammate Marner attributed the lapse in judgement to the fast-paced nature of hockey.
While the season is kicking into high-gear, Marner is making sure that he is still giving back. The Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup submission deadline is December 31st, with an announcement of 10 semifinalists to be announced in early January.
