Playing on a line with John Tavares would probably make anyone’s job easier, and with 13 points through ten games, Mitch Marner sure looks like a benefactor. If he can sustain a point-per-game pace, it’ll be a significant improvement over last season’s 69 points in 82 games.
How is their chemistry off the ice? Well, they’re two very different guys, and Marner couldn’t help but fire a friendly chirp through reporters.
Describing himself as the ‘Energizer Bunny’ of the team, Marner jokes that he’s there to keep the team young. At 28 years of age, John Tavares is hardly Patrick Marleau, but he’s a pretty serious guy on the ice, and he’s well aware of that.
“I think everyone knows I kinda take things pretty seriously, especially around the rink getting ready for practice or games, where he kinda keep things light. He’s just having fun, and it’s hard to ever tell if he gets serious, but he’s great for me that way because he just lightens the mood.” —John Tavares
The two had plenty of appreciation for the other’s game, and if they’re going to continue performing as they have so far, the good times will probably keep on rolling.
We know Marner loves a good joke, though. When Tyler Bozak made his return to Toronto last week, the two made sure to exchange some chirps through the media.
