Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Michal Neuvirth has gotten off to a strong start this season.
In six games in the Flyers crease, Neuvirth’s save percentage comes in at .928 despite his 2-3-1 record. The 29-year-old was re-signed in the off-season to a two-year, $2.5 million contract.
On the stat sheet, the Flyers are being led by Jakub Voracek, who sits tied with Sean Couturier with 18 points in the team’s first 15 games of the season. Voracek launched his charity “Kluk Puk” two years ago that aims at fighting multiple/disseminated sclerosis, a disease that Voracek’s sister Petra battles.
For every point Voracek scores, he donates $1,000 to the charity. Voracek’s foundation will receive a donation at the end of the season, when his countryman Neuvirth auctions off his new mask that was designed by artist David Gunnarson of DaveArt.
The mask features a Kluk Puk mascot, a Czech lion, and a castle from Neuvirth’s hometown.
By save percentage, the Czech goaltender has outperformed Brian Elliott, who was signed in the offseason to be the Flyers number one goaltender. If the Flyers have aspirations of making the post-season, they’ll need their goaltenders to stay sharp, an issue that has held them back for years now. But no matter how Neuvirth performs, his contributions to Kluk Puk will forever be recognized.
