20-year-old Michael McNiven is in the midst of his first season in the AHL.

The former Owen Sound Attack goal is now stopping pucks for the Laval Rocket, Montreal's AHL affiliate, and if he ever gets called up to play for the Habs, he'll be more than ready in the mask department.

The CCM Mask painted by Sylvie Marsolais of sylabrush makes it look like McNiven is wearing a toque and we can't help but be reminded of another Habs goalie who wore a toque while playing once:

In an interview with InGoal Magazine, Marsolais discussed some of the details of the mask, as well as the inspiration for the toque.

“We wanted to give the tuque a vintage and a realistic look with all the wool knitted one by one,” Marsolais told InGoal. “We wanted to create a design that would make reminds some great souvenir to the Montreal Canadiens fans. The toque theme is to represent kids playing hockey in the street or an outdoor rink, wearing their Habs toque.”

“On the right side you can see the old Montreal Forum, with the famous hockey stick visible from the street, a great part of the Habs history,” she said. “On the other side the Jacques-Cartier bridge.”
