It was starting to get to the point where Toronto Maple Leafs fans were getting angry and annoyed at the fact that Mitch Marner still didn’t have a new contract with preseason right around the corner, but that all changed on Friday evening.
TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger broke the news just after 6pm Eastern time that Marner and the Maple Leafs had agreed to terms on a new six-year deal that will pay the 22-year-old just over $65 million and a few of his former teammates congratulated him on his deal with some jokes.
Max Domi and Marner were teammates on the London Knights from 2013-2015, and Domi’s tweet got a response from Marner’s former Maple Leafs teammate James van Riemsdyk.
Always great to see players show some love to other players whenever a big payday comes around.
