While we look forward to this Sunday’s Super Bowl LIII, there’s at least one person out there who still can’t get past the Super Bowl of two seasons ago: Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who, memorably, was on the losing end of a comeback effort from down 28-3 by the New England Patriots.
Ryan says he still hears about this, all the time.
Well, sorry. If you squander a 25-point lead on the grandest stage in sports, you don’t get to stop hearing about it. The numbers ‘28-3’ are etched into our collective memories now! It’s all in good fun, though, as he’s clearly laughing it off.
Although the Falcons disappointed in 2018, Ryan had a strong season for himself; even in his age-33 year, he threw for 35 touchdowns and came just shy of 5,000 yards. That’s what good NFL quarterbacks do — they move on and they continue to produce. You can’t clown for Ryan that. You can, however, clown him for 28-3.
Case in point: Ryan and his wife announced that they were expecting twins, back in 2017, and the internet absolutely went in with 28-3 jokes. Over a year later, and nothing has changed!
