Martin St. Louis is not only an amazing hockey player but he is an embodiment of amazing perseverance.

If you simply looked at Marty’s numbers (391 goals, 642 assists, 1,033 points in 1,134 games) you certainly wouldn’t expect the man to be just 5’8. In an interview with TSN’s Gino Reda, St. Louis discusses his mother telling him “show ‘em, Marty” as a motivational tactic, but how his former head coach John Tortorella also motivated him in a different way.

St. Louis and Torts had quite a relationship, which sometimes could be a little rocky. Saying that, the respect they had for each other was undeniable, and apparently this chat where they had a bit of a heart-to-heart helped to win them the 2004 Stanley Cup.

As is with all Stanley Cup victories, this was a career defining moment, and one that may have eventually been the ticket puncher for St. Louis as one of the 2018 Hockey Hall of Fame inductees.

You never know when there will be a moment that changes your life.
