Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner lived up to the hype last night as they rocked the stage in front of a packed crowd as cannon dolls in 'The Nutcracker’. The two energetically swung their arms and courageously played their parts dressed head-to-two in colourful outfits. While Matthews played the more energetic doll, Marner’s appeared to be more scared. Following the show, Mitch gave a perfect explanation as to why he played the scared one opposed to Auston’s more courageous role.
You can’t really blame Marner for his response. The dude is just 6’0, 175 compared to Matthews, who stands at 6’3 220. Not so sure that would have gone over so smoothly!
You may or may not have noticed that Matthews did a certain movement with his right shoulder beside the cannon. He acknowledged his history of shoulder injuries after the show but joked that he used “the good one” to lift Marner. He also claimed to have warmed it up a great deal beforehand.
When it comes down to it the two should feel a sense of pride after last night. Their performance was at least good enough to impress their teammate Morgan Rielly… and his mom!
What a night it was at the Four seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.
