Golf is often a common activity NHL players partake in during the offseason.

Mark Scheifele is one of those players that loves to golf, but he's not just playing for fun with friends this summer.  On Thursday, the Jets' star will be teeing off at the Players Cup, a McKenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada event.

As per the Winnipeg Sun, Scheifele will play in the tournament thanks to a sponsors exemption that originally belonged to his teammate, Blake Wheeler.

Winnipeg's leading scorer this past season had to back out, so Scheifele is taking his spot and he's been preparing all summer long, as per the Winnipeg Sun:

“I’ve gotten in quite a few rounds,” he said. “I don’t know the exact number. I’m a big nine-hole player. I grew up, my dad loved the twilight rate because he was cheap, it was only about 20 bucks to play as many holes as you could so I was a big nine-hole player growing up. I love golf, I try to play as much as I can. Whenever I can get on a course I try to.”

Scheifele will be teeing of Thursday at 9:30 with Justin McDonald and Andrew Steep, and ahead of the tournament, he spoke to the Winnipeg Sun about the nerves he'll be feeling:

“Obviously I get nervous before every game and playoffs is even more nerve-racking but that’s something I do every single day, shoot the puck, handling a puck, playing in a game. It’s almost instinct, but when you get to golf and it’s something you do more for fun, it’s a totally different animal when it comes to that. I’m sure I’ll be shaking on that first tee but maybe I’ll pull out a four-iron on the first tee.”

We wish Scheifele the best of luck in the tournament and look forward to seeing how he does!
