In 1992, Manon Rheaume made sports history as the first and to this day only woman who has played in an NHL game, appearing in a preseason game while under contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. She would also appear in another preseason game in 1993.

Now, she’s bringing her hockey expertise to the world of television as a hockey analyst for RDS. “I am very happy to officially join the RDS team!” said Rheaume in French on Twitter.

Rheaume’s on-ice experience should provide her with compelling insights on the game. In addition to her stints in the NHL, she won two gold medals at the IIHF World Women's Championship with Canada as well as a silver medal in the 1998 Olympics.

Especially at a time where there is such an emphasis on continuing to grow the game of hockey, it can go a long way to feature analysis from a woman with such deep connections to the sport, and hopefully there are more to follow in Rheaume’s footsteps.
