It's not easy being a goalkeeper in soccer. A professional soccer player can kick the ball faster than a car speeding on the highway, and on top of that the nets are bigger than any other sports. Most of the time goals cannot be blamed on the keeper; other times they definitely can.
Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner almost ended up fully responsible for a very embarrassing goal.
We've seen keepers let balls roll by them, or kick it right at an opposing attacker. We've even seen keepers give up goals to other keepers. Zentner showed us something new. He simply didn't realize that the ball had rolled past him and ended up literally kicking air.
How embarrassing. After the game Zentner explained that he had mistaken the penalty spot marker with the ball, which makes sense because is another white circle that was sitting right beneath him.
Luckily he didn't actually give up the goal, as the teams ended up tying 1-1 and it could have been a real difference maker.
