Playing in Williamsport, Pa. at the Little League World Series as a 12-year-old kid while representing your country or region is one of the coolest experiences in sports any kid can have.
It's not just the players who have the time of their lives, it's the parents, coaches, siblings and organizers, who put on one of the most unique viewings in the world.
Unfortunately for some teams, the experience is short-lived, as teams are sent home as the tournament progresses. A team from Elizabeth, N.J. had their dreams of winning the entire thing come to a finish on Wednesday when they lost 4-1 to a team from River Edge, La.
Consoling a group of kids when they're sad is never easy. Team manager Jairo Labrador brought his team together for a post-game huddle where he gave an incredibly emotional speech as he choked up praising the players for never giving up in the game.
"I love you guys, man. There’s nothing else to say. You had a city behind you. The state of New Jersey! Elizabeth, New Jersey is now known in the best light because of this group of boys. Because of you guys and the work you did. I want to thank you guys. We’re here because of you guys and your work. Happy graduation day to my 12 year olds. Happy graduation. You guys are going on and be superstars on the big field. It was an honor.”
And that right there, folks, is why we love sports, especially the Little League World Series, today.
