After a quiet trade deadline in Toronto, all of the attention went back to Saturday night’s memorable loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The buzz hasn’t worn off in the city (at all) since David Ayres became the biggest celebrity in the hockey world after earning a miraculous win between the pipes as Carolina’s tendy. Kyle Dubas addressed the media on Monday and after getting asked about the loss, he explained how the Leafs were really in a "no-win" situation. On one hand, a win would have meant the team defeated its own employee. On the other…. Well, you lose to a 42-year-old Zamboni driver.
Angry Leaf fans didn’t respond well to the quote on Twitter…
As suspicious as a win would have looked, the Leafs really, really could have used the two points. Toronto currently holds just a two point lead over the Florida Panthers (who have a game in hand) for the Atlantic Division’s third playoff spot and have the Tampa Bay Lightning on deck tonight on the road. They could prove to be pretty, pretty, pretty (Larry David voice) costly.
As for our guy Dave, well, he’s living the dream.
So, what do you think hockey fans?
