The New York Knicks and the Dallas Mavericks were involved in a blockbuster on Thursday, as injured superstar Kristaps Porzingis was sent to the Mavs. In return, the Knicks received second-year point guard Dennis Smith Jr., and enough cap relief to sign two players to maximum contracts in the summer. You can tell what their angle is here: Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, DeMarcus Cousins, Kemba Walker, Jimmy Butler and so on.

At first, the report was that Porzingis had met with Knicks brass to express his displeasure with the franchise, suggesting that he had at least been the one to grease the wheels for a trade.

However, Porzingis is hinting on Instagram that perhaps there could be more to the story.

Certainly, fans were suspicious of the speed with which the trade had been consummated; the initial report of Porzingis’ displeasure led to the report of his trade in about half an hour, which is a breakneck pace for any superstar trade to move at.

Maybe this is just another prominent NBA player having some fun with his platform on social media, or maybe it isn’t — it isn't uncommon for players to take to social media to air their side of the story, as Raptors fans can attest. Porzingis did, however, thank Knicks fans in a classy post to his Instagram.
