Kasperi Kapanen is having a breakout season with the Toronto Maple Leafs and part of that is likely because he has seen a significant upgrade in linemates.
Through the first month of his season, Kapanen wound up on Auston Matthews’ wing and it was a great partnership between the two. Kapanen scored 10 points in eleven games with Matthews in the lineup and since then he’s scored just seven points in 14 games. Considering that Matthews has stated that he feels ready to come back, reporters asked Kapanen if he’d noticed any different with his new centreman, Nazem Kadri, and he was pretty blunt with his answer.
Apparently he gets a little lost playing with him.
Kadri is a pretty creative player and probably plays less North/South than Matthews, so it would make sense that he might be a little harder to read on the ice. We’re sure Kapanen wasn’t trying to offend his teammate but it definitely comes off pretty harsh.
Either way, we’re pretty sure everybody is going to be excited to get Matthews back.
