We’re finally starting to gain a little clarity on this Jose Altuve tattoo situation, at least from the Astros’ side of things.

After the Astros were caught sign-stealing during both the 2017 and 2018 seasons, speculation grow over Altuve wearing a buzzer during the 2019 ALCS that assisted him at the plate. Baseball fans and analysts noticed the second baseman refused to let his teammates rip his jersey off as he approached home plate after hitting the walk-off home run to send Houston to the World Series, and although his agent insisted it was due to shyness, his teammate Carlos Correa argued otherwise. The 25-year-old told reporters last week that it was due to an unfinished tattoo on his collarbone. On Monday, Altuve thanked his friend for defending him and revealed he started working on the tattoo midseason in San Francisco.

If you take a look at a photo of the 29-year-old from the past World Series, you can see a small tattoo. According to Altuve, ink says “Melanie” over a heart and he essentially revealed it to reporters on Monday.

ESPN producer Paul Hembekides shared a picture of Altuve without a tattoo on July 29, 2019. It's unclear exactly when this went down, but isn’t this all just a little weird? Why would his agent first reveal shyness as the cause? Why not just mention the tattoo in the first palce?

This whole thing is very bizarre and fans are clearly ticked off by it all.
