John Tortorella has been known to blow a fuse over his NHL coaching career, but he’s been relatively tame more recently. Occasionally, though, he’ll still show his animated side and he put it on full display tonight in the Blue Jackets’ 4-2 loss to the Leafs.
The game was tied at 2’s with just under five minutes remaining until Leafs forward Zach Hyman managed to put one home while being left all alone in front. Tortorella was understandably upset but let his emotiions get the best of him during an altercation with Lukas Sedlak, who was partly responsible for the goal after leading his defenceman open at the blue line. It’s tough to tell exactly what was said but you could see Torts was not happy.
Definitely, definitely would not want to be in Sedlak’s position there. It didn’t stop on the bench either, as Tortorella addressed the coverage after the game as well.
All of this comes just hours after an interesting comment made by Torts earlier in the day. The 60-year-old ironically said the NHL has turned into a “find a way to win league” and that he doesn’t bother correcting every error now.
No matter how many years pass by in the league, Tortorella will always have that fire that most hockey fans love (or hate) to see in a coach.
