Another busy NHL trade deadline has come and gone, and much to the dismay of Joe Thornton, he remains with the San Jose Sharks and well outside the playoff picture.

Thornton, an NHL veteran of 22 seasons, has only had one fruitless trip to the Stanley Cup Final to show for it so far, and the 40-year-old was hoping for a change of scenery to a contending team.

Nothing materialized though, and Thornton is definitely disappointed.

Joe Thornton was hoping for a trade to a Stanley Cup contender at the deadline.

There was some interest in Thornton at the deadline, reports Pierre LeBrun, but it doesn’t sound like any of the interested teams were Cup contenders that Thornton would have waived his no-trade clause to go to.

Another Sharks veteran in a similar position, Patrick Marleau, did get his desired trade to the contending Pittsburgh Penguins, but it looks like Thornton will be sticking around to play out the remainder of his 15th season in San Jose. Well, all things considered, we can think of worse fits than Joe Thornton and the San Jose Sharks.

Marleau, meanwhile, gets to chase Lord Stanley as a member of his childhood team.
