A couple years ago the New England Patriots’ quarterback rotation consisted of Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett, but now they're all in different cities playing for different teams.
This past weekend, Brissett was a guest on Double Coverage with the McCourty Twins and told some stories about his time in New England, including his very first visit to the team before he was drafted and why he was hoping he would get drafted by anyone but the Patriots.
Brissett recalled not even saving Josh McDaniels’ number in his phone because he wasn’t expecting a call from the team and didn’t want to play for them, but thanks to some of the veterans on the team he was able to open up to playing there.
“I honestly did not want to be there,” Brissett told Devin and Jason McCourty, both defensive backs with the Patriots. “When I took my visit there — my pre-draft visit — I was like, ‘Hell no. If one team drafts me, it better not be them.’ And I’ll never forget, Josh (McDaniels) called me on the phone on draft night and I didn’t have his number saved. That’s how bad it was. I didn’t even have his number saved in my phone. I was like, ‘Damn, man.’ “
The Indianapolis Colts quarterback also recalled the time he found out he had been traded.
Brissett has been a member of the Colts since 2017 and has gone 11-19 in 35 games where he’s thrown for 6,042 yards and 31 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. However, the Colts went out and acquired Philip Rivers this past offseason, so the starting job is up for grabs.
