When the NBA first announced that teams would be able to place sponsor logos on their jerseys back in April of 2016, fans weren't pleased. While detractors of the plan argued that the addition of sponsor logos would ruin the sanctity of a team's jersey design, a majority of the teams in the league were open to the idea of additional revenue. 17 teams and counting to be exact.
Teams who chose to go ahead and add a jersey sponsor pointed to the longstanding history of jersey sponsors in soccer, arguing that the placement of corporate logos on uniforms is nothing new, and that fans would get used to it over time. As we pointed out in our 'Good, Bad and the Ugly list on Tuesday, some teams did a better job than others when it came to incorporating their sponsor's logo into the jersey design. But the real question is who did the best job in getting the most money for the placement of a sponsor patch?
Here is a list of the 16 teams who will feature a sponsor patch on their jersey during the 2017-18 season, and approximately how much they got for doing so. A number of teams did not disclose the details of their sponsorship deal, so these are estimates based on the latest reports.
