The top 15 picks in the 2018 NHL Draft were officially set on Saturday night as the NHL Draft Lottery took place in Toronto. After the Ottawa Senators were bumped out of the top three to fourth overall, it left the Montreal Canadiens as the lone Canadian franchise with a chance to clinch the top spot.
However, the odds worked against them and in favour of the team expected to get the first overall pick as the Buffalo Sabres secured the top pick.
Considering the team has been near the bottom of the standings for quite some time now, their fans felt like this was owed to them and they were pretty ecstatic after hearing the news about securing the top pick.
However, while just about every single Sabres fan is stoked about the announcement, the rest of the league decided to take the opportunity that they are still the Sabres and fired off plenty of jokes.
Rasmus Dahlin has been the projected number one overall pick since last summer and he proved why all year long. In his first SHL season, the 18-year-old defenceman recorded seven goals and 20 points in 41 games and also recorded six assists in seven games at the World Junior Championship in Buffalo.
