The Mike Legg Michigan goal is one of the most memorable goals in the history of hockey.
The lacrosse-style goal has been emulated several times over the years, including Sidney Crosby when he did it during his Rimouski days.
Is that a young Dan O’Toole we hear in the background? Any who, we digress.
The various renditions of the Legg goal has made the uniqueness and novelty wear off over the years. Sure, they’re unexpected and still look cool, but nothing will really ever match the original
Halifax Mooseheads winger Otto Somppi might’ve just one upped everyone else that’s ever tried to pull it off.
The Tampa Bay Lighting prospect was in action on Sunday afternoon as his Mooseheads did battle with the Shawinigan Cataractes. With the game scoreless in the first, Somppi cut hard down low behind the Shawinigan net with a defender chasing him. Somppi continues his motion (most players plant their feet and lift the puck at a stand still) and effortlessly picks the puck up on his stick before throwing it into the net.
Check how quickly he gets the puck on his blade and into the net all in one motion.
The 20-year-old leads Halifax in points with 21 goals and 47 assists for 68 points in 47 games. As if the Lightning really need another talented forward prospect.
