Being sleep-deprived.
It’s something that happens to the best of us, sometimes your eyes just get heavy and you’re in desperate need to get a snooze in.
But sometimes that moment doesn’t happen in the middle of Game 7 of the World Series.
Yeah, you heard that right.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated in their latest issue that was released Friday morning, Francisco Lindor dove in on his new role with the New York Mets, adjusting to life growing up in Puerto Rico before moving to America and reflecting on his time while in Cleveland.
While discussing his leadership abilities and hard work ethic, he shared with SI just how Game 7 of the 2016 World Series still lingers in his mind.
As Rajai Davis’ two-run HR in the eighth inning tied the game, both Cleveland and the Chicago Cubs remained tied after nine innings. The game was absolutely electric all until a rain delay put the game on pause.
During that rain delay, Lindor opens up on how he ended up opting for a quick snooze during one of the biggest games of his career.
“I went to the locker room [during the rain delay] and I saw the plastic and I said, ‘Oh, s---,’ ” Lindor says, referring to the protective sheeting to shield players’ lockers from the anticipated champagne celebration. “So I went down to the weight room and I just laid down for a nap. I was 22. If I was older, we would have won that game. It would have been different.” - per Sports Illustrated
And if we don’t remember what went down in 2016, the Cubs came back after the rain delay to win 8-7 over Cleveland and become World Series Champions after their long-lived Curse of the Billy Goat that lasted 71 years.
Lindor reflects on how if he wasn’t so young, he would have handled the “do or die” situation differently and even won the World Series.
Though of course when baseball fans heard this, especially Cleveland fans, they had a field day.
We don’t know, sure falling asleep during a rain delay instead of hyping up your team may not seem great but we wouldn’t hold that against him. He was only 22, it was not only his second year with the team but in the Majors!
Personally, we wouldn’t let it eat us up if we were Lindor.
Yeah it isn’t the greatest move to catch some Z’s during the biggest game of the season, but sometimes you just need to come off that high for a brief moment!
