Ever wonder what EA Sports' 'Big Head' mode would look like in real life? Now's your chance!
Our very own Luca Celebre and Jesse Pollock made the trip down to Sarnia where they took on the Sting in one of the more unique hockey challenges you'll likely ever see. Fans have grown used to seeing Luca and Jesse square off against one another, but the duo teamed up this time around and as you probably could have predicted, they did not fare well.
The BarDownskis brought back one of EA's more classic features by strapping on large paper cut-outs of their heads (their competition did the same), and testing their luck in a condensed playing surface. They also competed in a shootout challenge with only goalie sticks, three-point basketball competition with hockey pucks and failed HARD at a 25-puck challenge.'
Buckle up!
For reference, here's a look at what 'Big Head' mode looked like back in '99. The feature has been brought back in numerous EA NHL games throughout the years and never seems to look less ridiculous:
The good ole' days!
Okay, so maybe it was obvious that an L was coming for Luca and Jesse with this one, but can you blame them? These are OHLers we're talking about here... against two of the biggest scrubs to ever lace'em up. It's also worth noting that one of the two players in the 'Big Head' mode game was drafted 44th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2019 (Jamieson Rees), and his teammate Jacob Perreault is a projected first round draft pick in this year's draft.
So we'll take it easy on Luca and Jesse for this one.
We suggest you print out some big heads of yourself and give this a try on the ODR next winter. Just make sure the competition is a little more even!
