On Monday night, two of the best teams in the NHL battle in Toronto as the Leafs host the Kings.

Los Angeles hasn't lost in regulation yet this season and Drew Doughty has been playing like his Norris Trophy-winning self with six points in seven games and a +6 rating.

Ahead of the Kings' game against the Leafs, Doughty was asked about whether the Leafs are Cup contenders and here's what he had to say:

Drew #Doughty thinks the #Leafs are close, but not quite Cup contenders.

Doughty makes some good points as the Leafs are first in the league in goals for per game (4.63), but they give up the eight most goals per game (3.50), so there is room for improvement to say the least.

Add in the fact that the team just signed Roman Polak to a one-year deal and you might get the sense that they also feel like they can improve defensively.

Obviously the goal is to score more goals than the other team, but when the playoffs roll around and it becomes that much harder to score goals at the same rate as during the regular season, then fans will be able to confirm whether Doughty was right or not.
