David Rittich was one of the bigger names to move on a relatively lackluster, as he made the switch from the Calgary Flames to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
While some Calgary fans were sad to see him go, and others thought he failed to live up to his nickname ‘Big Save Dave,’ there was one fan who was way more emotionally connected to the trade than anyone else.
This was the video, posted by Twitter user @yycBrady and featuring his 4-year-old son’s reaction.
If your heart doesn’t break into a million pieces watching that, we’re sorry to say you may be a little bit of a Grinch. Luckily, the story has a happy ending, so you can pick those pieces up off the floor and put your heart back together again.
Rittich saw the upset fan subsequently got in touch with the family. The new Leafs netminder joined Brady and his son for an evening video call, and it’s clear how much it meant to the youngster.
While we aren’t sure when fans will be allowed back in the building, we can’t wait to see if these two get to meet each other one day.
When it comes to this kid’s feeling towards the trade, that WAS a Big Save, Dave!
