The IIHF decided to try something new this year at the World Junior Championship by hosting the first ever outdoor game in tournament history.
The tournament directors weren’t too sure if they were going to be able to go through with the outdoor game due to the freezing temperatures and the snow coming in from the lake, but they decided to go through with it anyways. However, they seemed to forget this was a Buffalo snowfall we’re talking about.
The weather wasn’t too bad to start the game, as minor flurries started to make their way onto the ice early on in the afternoon.
However, by the second period the cleaners had gone from clearing the snow off the ice like Zambonis to using wheelbarrows to clear it off the ice.
No one like to stand outside in weather like that, but hockey fans will do anything for their favourite sport.
Especially when it’s for a Team Canada and Team USA showdown.
