Thousands of people rallied across the United States on Saturday afternoon in several cities for the March for Our Lives protest. The protests were organized to bring awareness to school shootings and gun violence after the recent attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Florida. The city of Washington was amongst those that partook in the march. Over one million people across the U.S. took part, including 4,500 kids from Baltimore that traveled to Washington courtesy of Carmelo Anthony.

Unable to attend, Melo opened up his wallet and paid for about 90 buses to transport the kids.

The Thunder’s small forward explained to Thunder reporter Fred Katz on why he decided to contribute to the march.

Here’s the full quote from the interview:

“I think activism is just either you do it or you don’t. It’s not something you look forward or you gotta plan it out. It’s something that’s gotta come natural. I think I will always be part of or active when it comes to activism and speaking up when it has things to do with communities and people and different issues we go through today. That’s just a natural thing for me.”

Anthony, 33, is the latest celebrity to get involved: George Clooney, Steve Nash, Denis Rodman, The Rock and Dwyane Wade are just some of the biggest names to take action.
